Mother and Son Died Amid the Natural Beauty of NTT
SHNet, JAKARTA – “Is it true that we are a great and noble nation? A great and noble nation is one that respects children and mothers!”
The question and affirmation was made by Rozan Anwar, Co-Founder of PT DayaLima Abisatya, while presenting prototype of Batch 4, Executive Program for Sustainable Partnership (EPSP) Program, Paramadina University, in partnership with the Company Community Partnership for Health Indonesia (CCPHI) and Ford Fondation themed Down Infant Mortality Rate and Maternal Mortality Rate in East Nusa Tenggara Province at Paramadina University, Jakarta, last week.
Rozan Anwar and four colleagues conducted a study in NTT for two weeks to create the prototype. They are D'Carlo Purba (ADRA Indonesia Direct Program Directors), Laily Hanafiah (Executive Director of Mitra Inti Foundation), Novana Putri (Sub Directorate of Individual Practice, Directorate General of Health Service of Ministry of Health) and Yudi Irawan (Legal Manager PDAM Pemda DKI Jakarta).
“There are four women who die every day because they are women who have to give birth to their children, "Rozan said. This is an unfair and ungodly thing. Until when the maternal and child mortality rate should continue to occur in this country?
NTT province, he said, full of irony. The nature is very beautiful. Wherever the body is taken and the eye sees, there is a beautiful nature. Beaches, underwater life, land, everything is beautiful. The people are friendly too. It is not surprising that the government is currently keen to boost the tourism sector in NTT.
Tragedy of Instant Noodles
However, behind the enchanting beauty of nature is stored a number of tragedy that is open and has lasted long. The tragedies were not unknown, but because they had been long and open, as if they were just ordinary things.
Yudi Irawan explained, the first tragedy is poverty. The face of poverty in NTT is very diverse and it keeps the population caught in many ways. Horror of poverty. Wherever we go in different corners of NTT, the problem of poverty is gaping.
Poverty led to other tragedies. The quality of education is still very low. "Many children do not have access to education," Yudi said. Whereas if given the same access and opportunity to follow the education level, the road to get out of the poverty chain can be found.
Poverty leads to malnutrition problems for children. He argued, NTT residents want to live modern, but not ready. There are many grains that contain high nutrients, but forgotten because they want to eat rice or others because it is considered more modern.
“To fill the nutrients, they forget their local wisdom. Instant noodles are considered the most nutritious. Imagine pregnant women and toddlers given instant noodles constantly. What will be the result? "Yudi said.
The presence of clean water, he added, adds to the difficulties of NTT people who have carried heavy burden of pontificate. There are many health facilities in public health centers (puskesmas) or even hospitals that are not functioning or can not be used due to water content. Likewise, more power outages.
D'Carlo Purba said it is not surprising that many NTT residents are migrant workers. However, because it is not equipped with good quality education, many workers who later became victims of violence or other problems abroad.
“Already 48 bodies of migrant workers who were sent to NTT in our year to do this prototype, "said D'Carlo.
If seen further, various non-governmental organizations (NGOs) are present in NTT for various types of activities. The result, there is a slight reduction but not too proud and therefore all parties must open their eyes and hearts and minds.
Offer
Laily Hanafiah disclosed, the effort to build trust (trust) of society to the local government and vice versa is something that must be done in NTT. The public needs to understand that he has the right to demand good public services from the government.
The public has the right to demand. At the same time, however, capacity building of local governments is a basic requirement. Without an increase in the capacity of local governments, all will be redundant.
There is a cultural problem in most of NTT, which places women as weak parties. Many married women have an early age, and must follow the wishes and wishes of their parents. Women are not free to make choices about their future.
Well, strengthening the role of women is needed NTT today so that between men and women more equal. (Inno Jemabut)
