CCPHI Facilitating HIV & AIDS Discussion on “Mining Industries HIV Prevention Programs” at East Kutai
Company-Community Partnerships for Health in Indonesia (CCPHI) in cooperation with Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC) and the National AIDS Commission (NAC) held the 1st HIV & AIDS Discussion at the Recreation Hall in Wisma Rayah of KPC, Sangatta, East Kutai on Thursday, 27 June 2013. The discussion was moderated and facilitated by Kemal Soeriawidjaja of CCPHI (www.ccphi.org).
The meeting discussed The Mining Industry's HIV prevention program with speakers from PT. Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC) and PT. Pertamina. The meeting was attended by 40 participants from companies, health care provider, NGOs, education institutions, associations, government agencies and the media.
KPC (www.kpc.co.id) is a coal mining companies operating in East Kutai, East Kalimantan. While Pertamina (www.pertamina.com) is a state-owned company in the field of oil, gas and geothermal.
Haryadi Wardono - Occupational Health & Safety Manager of Kaltim Prima Coal shared their various HIV prevention activities both for the employees and communities around KPC operation areas from 2010 until 2013 such as peer educator trainings, distribution of educational materials for employees and community, moreover, KPC also incorporated HIV prevention topics as part of company's Occupational Health & Safety policy.
The second speaker was Hikmah Nursari from Pertamina's Medical Unit, she shared the company's HIV & AIDS prevention programs in the exploration and production unit of Sangatta. Hikmah explained the importance of the collaboration among institutions in implementing this program. Pertamina collaborates withthe East Kutai District AIDS Commission in distributing pamphlets and free condoms forworkers and female sex workers. So far there are 200 employees and 60 people who have conducted free medical check up.
