The 22nd HBRI: The Power of Partnerships in Managing Post-consumer Waste in Bali
Company-Community Partnerships for Health in Indonesia (CCPHI) facilitated the 22nd Health and Business Roundtable Indonesia (HBRI) on September 23rd 2013. Tetra Pak, a multinational food and beverages processing and packaging company, with its partner ecoBali, an organization that focuses on waste management activities in Bali, presented their partnership titled "The Power of Partnerships". The program has contributed in building business-to-business partnerships in reducing sustainable post-consumer waste (zero waste).
The roundtable discussion was moderated by Kemal Soeriawidjaja, Executive Director of CCPHI and was attended by 40 participants from 9 companies, 15 NGOs, and 2 educational institutions.
The partnership between Tetra Pak Indonesia (www.tetrapak.com) and ecoBali (www.eco-bali.com) commenced in 2007 and is currently underway. Both organizations shared common interests in reducing post-consumer waste. For Tetra Pak, headquartered in Sweden, waste reduction is a commitment from the company's founder. While ecoBali believed that the partnership is align with their main mission i.e. the initial sorting process of waste (before the waste is being disposed into final landfills), recycling and composting.
After the partnership presentation, Riris Sundrijo from Pacivis UI (www.fisip.ui.ac.id/pacivisui/) facilitated the participants discussion on the elements of sustainable partnership. The discussion concluded that transparency in program management, trust, and the ability to choose the right partners with no interest to any political party are among the key elements for the success of the partnerships.
