Research & Business Forum #1: Economy Development, Prosperity, and Public Health
CCPHI has just launched the Research & Business Forum (RBF/FRB), which facilitates the meeting between businesses and research agencies. The goals are to build relationships, grow mutual trust, and share experiences in building partnerships between companies and think tanks, which would lead to the improvement and sustainability of economic development.
The FRB #1 was held on Wednesday, 22 November 2017, in Knowledge Sector Initiative (KSI) offices on the 9th floor of Ratu Plaza Office Building, Jakarta, featuring “Economic Development, Public Welfare and Health” theme. The resource persons from the research institutes for this forum were: Asep Suryahadi of SMERU Institute; Shita Dewi of UGM’s Center for Health Policy and Management (CHPM); and Dadi Darmadi of Pusat Pengkajian Islam dan Masyarakat/PPIM (Center for Islamic and Society Studies) at UIN Jakarta. Most of the participants came from private sector, but some of them represented other think tanks under Aliansi Riset Kebijakan/ARK (Policy Research Alliance), which is fully supported by KSI. Research and Business Forum #1 discussed the gaps between the demand and supply sides of Knowledge Sector in Indonesia. We heard arguments and explanations from the research institutions and the businesses. It appears among the expectations of the private companies on the performance of research institutions that support their business needs, with research institutions that sets out independency on their result. One of the example is about publishing the research result. Private sector tends to decline the research result due to business competition while research institution inclines to publish as it is one of its missions. In the end, both sides agreed that they have equal position in a partnership between business sector and research institute.
The Research and Business Forum #1 was attended by 29 participants from private sector (including company, philanthropy, and media) and research institutions, with Ananta Gondomono, CCPHI Partnership Building Officer, as the moderator.
