CCPHI with Partnership-ID held an online Discussion on Women’s Empowerment Principles/WEPs topic on 18 May 2020 with the following resource persons Erna Witoelar – Partnership-ID, Iriantoni Almuna – UN Women, Nunik Maharani – Austindo Nusantara Jaya (ANJ), and Veranita Yosephine- CEO AirAsia. Tya Adhitama – Navigadhi acted as the moderator. The discussion was participated by 25 participants from the private sector, the media and NGOs.
Tya Adhitama as the moderator opened the discussion by sharing a 2018 research finding that 30% of BOD were women and showed higher productivity and compliance. The percentage of women in BOD level should be higher and higher, despite of challenges due to stereotypes. The first speaker, Erna Witoelar explained the 7 principles of WEPs, and continued by Iriantoni Almuna with the WEPs platform. As there is nothing new with WEPs and those Principles are all stated in SDGs goals and indicators, therefore corporates will not have additional burden when preparing the sustainability report. Applying WEPs within organization will automatically help to accelerate the achievement of SDGs. The next speaker, Nunik Maharani shared how WEPs are implemented at ANJ, from the availability of company policies and its implementation along its supply chain, and reported in their Sustainability Report. The last speaker, Veranita Yosephine shared her career experiences until she became the first female CEO in the male-dominated airline industry.
