Knowledge Sharing: Evidence-based Public Policy in Makassar
As part of the Knowledge Sector Initiative (KSI) activities, CCPHI attended and participated in a knowledge sharing meeting held on the initiative of KSI on 5 - 6 July 2018 in Makassar. This activity is intended to share knowledge among attending participants in relation to the process of developing and applying better public policies in South Sulawesi region. This meeting is also a step in exploring potential collaboration between South Sulawesi Provincial Government and KSI program along with its partners, especially Bappenas and State Administration Institution (LAN), for the drafting of evidence-based public policy.
The participants from Jakarta brought by KSI came from various elements including leaders of the Center for Policy Analyst (PUSAKA) LAN, Regional Autonomy Implementation Monitoring Committee (KPPOD), Indonesian Policy Analyst Association (AAKI); representatives from Poverty and Social Development - Australian Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and CCPHI. Meanwhile from Makassar, the experts from the University of Hassanudin and Bursa Pengetahuan Kawasan Timur Indonesia (BaKTI) attended the meeting.
In this meeting, the provincial government of South Sulawesi explained their vision, mission and work agenda in achieving their objective of evidence-informed public policy process. PUSAKA LAN also socialized the functional position and competence of policy analyst as a profession to have better policy at regional level. This meeting also discussed other KSI activities such as KRISNA, an electronic based planning system application as well as the efforts to strengthen the research agendas in the universities.
This activity is part of the KSI activities in phase 2 which is a cooperation program between the Governments of Indonesia and Australia to strengthen the knowledge sector outside Java (sub-national) through the collaboration with the Policy Research Institutes (PRI) and other existing partners. It was expected from this meeting the commitment from local government on the efforts to strengthen evidence- based public policy. In addition to South Sulawesi, this activity will also take place in Aceh and West Nusa Tenggara provinces.
